When I first got into the trailer business, I really didn’t know much about enclosed trailers. As the years have passed, I have learned a tremendous amount about enclosed trailers from our customers. I’ve learned what is important and what is the fluffy, foo-foo stuff that doesn’t really provide any value.
I remember my first trip down to Daytona for the race show before the 500. I sat down with racer after racer and learned that a quality design and good fit-and-finish just cannot be beat. There is no shortage of trailer manufacturers out there just pumping out the same old stuff with lackluster quality. We have built our enclosed trailers around a different customer. Our customers recognize precision craftsmanship and quality of design.
By steering out business this direction and taking the upper road, yeah, we miss out on some of the massive amounts of cheap trailers that are sold, but we can sleep well at night knowing that we build the best stuff out there. Our customers recognize this and continue coming back.

What would you consider a mobile office? Those trailers you see on construction sites that are only temporary. The kind that look like stripped down mobile homes? What if a guy with a Blackberry conducts all his business at the local Starbucks while using their signal? Is that his office?
I guess that really either could be considered a mobile office. However, the one seems a little undermanned and the other a little too permanent. Do you know what the difference is between inclose or enclose? Or the variants of those inclosed or enclosed? Well as it turns out there isn’t any difference they both mean the same thing. However the preferred spelling or usage just happens to be “enclosed”. Now that may not mean much to most people but I just happen to be in the business of making enclosed trailers, and since we advertise we really do try to get things like spelling and grammatical nuances correct. I don’t know how much longer that will actually be important in the age of texting and twitter it seems that you can just make things up as you go along.
Let’s get back to that enclosed trailers thing for a moment. Of course you were wondering what that means? Well weren’t you? An enclosure structurally is like a fence around property or more specifically like a porch on your house,but now you put glass around it. Voila! You now have an enclosed room that used to be an open to the weather porch. That may not mean much to some people, but try reading the Sunday morning paper on your porch in Indiana in January. You would immediately understand why enclosing it with glass makes a lot of sense. If I built enclosed porches, I would continue down this path but I don’t so I won’t.
I make enclosed trailers (www.aluminumtrailer.com) and I was just trying to get my point across in a way most people would understand. You can buy many types of trailers and many of them are open like your front porch, and they work very well for some things, but if you want things dry and not exposed to the elements of the weather you need an enclosed trailer. What kind of enclosed trailer? Well I could tell you now but that would spoil my fun. LOL (that’s one of those texting things I was talking about). Whenever people ask me what I do for my job I always answer that I build cargo trailers. That of course leads to the inevitable question. What kind of cargo, what do mean by cargo trailer? Do you mean like U Haul? The answer is always a qualified yes, just like a U Haul but different. We at ATC (www.aluminumtrailer.com) build all kinds of trailers for a lot of different companies and a lot of different applications. However when it gets right down to it you need a cargo trailer to haul stuff. Trust me it’s the easiest and safest way to get your stuff where you want it to be.
A number of years ago (working at a different company not to be named here) I would routinely deliver trailers to our dealers on the east coast. The reason was pretty simple. They got a trailer delivered without having to pay the transportation cost, and I got to visit my family. A real quid pro quo! Now normally it was just an empty cargo trailer that I would drop off at the dealer’s lot. Then I would visit with the dealer and review some business items, and then next day as I said I would visit my family.
One particular trip however proved to be quite a challenge. You see my oldest daughter had graduated from college, and decided to permanently relocate to Brooklyn, New York. For those of you who don’t know that’s one of the five boroughs that make up the city of New York. Therefore, I was now going to load and move all her stuff. Did I mention earlier that cargo trailers are all about hauling stuff? Anyway here was the dilemma. Load all her things bed, furniture, clothes, etc. in the cargo trailer. Drive into Brooklyn (not the most ideal city for a truck and trailer), unload the trailer, and then deliver it to the dealer with the inside and outside looking new.
Well the driving part was pretty easy, and by the way almost anyone would find hauling a cargo trailer relatively easy. It was when we arrived on her street that it initially looked daunting. You see they have this thing called alternate side of the street parking. What I think that means is that if you don’t find parking you have an alternative, just keep driving. A parking space for a twenty foot trailer and truck doesn’t just happen, but believe it or not there it was. The only problem now would be to actually parallel park the whole thing. With my daughters spotting for me, and a little luck I was able to do it. We unloaded her stuff, I spent the night, and I delivered the trailer to the dealer the next day.
As I said when you need to move whatever it is that needs moving consider a cargo trailer from ATC. That’s where I work building them, and I’ll throw in the driving lesson for free. Happy Moving!

We are really thankful right now at ATC and Motiv, because over the past months our business has really picked up. It’s a great change from the past year or two when economic times were so tough. One area of our business in particular has been extremely busy: our commercial trailer product line seems to be growing every day, which is so exciting for us.
ATC has always been an industry leader in the commercial trailer field. We pride ourselves on our ability to design and build literally anything our customers can imagine. In the past few years we have taken our steel trailer product, the Motiv line, and adapted that to make a superb commercial trailer platform – especially for the customer who has a tighter budget. We are constantly looking for newer and more innovative solutions for our corporate and commercial clients.
One example of a totally unique trailer series we built were our remote fish tagging trailers. These lightweight ATC all-aluminum trailers carried special equipment to tag salmon in remote areas, as well as stainless steel countertops, custom sinks, and cabinetry that enabled the trailer to run fish through its machinery right at crucial streams and rivers. We have also designed many different vending units, apparel and parts display trailers, a BBQ trailer complete with open porch on the back to display a smoker, even mobile bar trailers!

I have been working in the trailer business for almost 6 years now, and I am still continuously amazed at all the different things people want to put in their trailers. When you read the phrase “cargo trailer” it seems so simple and straightforward…yet every day at ATC and Motiv brings new customers, with different types of cargo, and totally unique ways of carrying it.
For example, we called one of our favorite projects “The Monkey Trailer” – and yes, it was a super custom high end playground for a customer’s beloved pet monkeys. Loaded with a custom primate cage package, wire runs all around the upper and lower levels of the trailers for exercise, a state of the art heating and cooling system, even a flat screen TV for the monkey’s entertainment…it was a cargo trailer that even a human would have been comfortable in!
Of course, we don’t make just super custom trailers (even if they are the most fun). When the tough economic times hit a year and a half ago, we heard from quite a few of our customers and dealers that ATC and Motiv really needed a value priced cargo trailer line. Custom trailers have always been a special part of our business here at ATC. We have a workforce that is very quality minded and have a craftsmen approach to building trailers. We haven’t always been as cost conscious as we could have been but our main goal of building custom trailers is that we meet the customers’ expectations. When building custom trailers it can sometimes be difficult to give the customer exactly what he/she wants. That’s why we offer 3D prints for all of our custom trailers. This helps the customer picture what they are getting before its built. Each custom trailer has an easy to read order form and corresponding prints. Many of our competitors have decided not to build highly custom trailers anymore. They have decided that it is too difficult and too costly to maintain the engineering staff as well as the workforce that will be able to provide the fit and finish that a demanding customer requires. Our custom trailer line is going to be continually improving our response time as well as our communication with customers. Custom trailers are the most demanding type of trailers to build and we have done a good job of providing them to our dealer base.

Mobile labs have become a way of business. ATC recently completed this mobile lab that served three functions in one trailer. At the rear it was processing area for animals. This area in the mobile lab was also set up to transitioned into a storage area for equipment in transit.
The 2nd section in the mobile lab was the refrigerated lab area.
The third was just a bunk area so the technicians could catch some shut eye between jobs. ATC will help you design and build your mobile lab from the ground up. Please check out the custom area on web site to get some more ideas.

Over the years we have done our fair share of command center trailers. Command center trailers can be used for many different things. We have customers that have used command centers for training purposes as well as safety training for staff of fire and police departments. We are currently doing one of our largest and most expensive command centers to date. This particular command center is for the Louisiana Parish Sherriff’s office. During certain times of the year it will no doubt be tested in use. Our command centers come completely finished from major power generators to full communication capabilities. We do it all. We can even install specially supplied parts for a command center that is requested by a customer. We have the experience and the engineering department to supply full 3D prints and make sure that your command center gets to you exactly the way that you specify.

The word “custom trailer” sometimes scares people off because they feel that when you get the convenience of a custom design, inherently an astronomical fee must be associated in there somewhere. In out vocabulary a custom trailer does not necessarily have to be expensive. The only thing that often constitutes a custom trailer is what options you want and where you want those options located.
At ATC and Motiv trailers, we have built thousands of custom trailers that are 100% to the specifications of the end user, but didn’t take a stitch more time to manufacture. We have developed a flexible manufacturing process that allows us to make each and every trailer unique while still running an efficient production line.

“Custom trailers” is a phrase that is often tossed around in the trailer business. But what exactly does it mean, especially in terms of your trailer needs? Literally, customization is defined by one source as anything made or modified to a personal taste. Just for fun, I typed in the phrase “trailer manufacturers” into Google to see what would come up. I wasn’t too surprised to get 11,400,000 results. One of the first sites that came up was www.natm.com , the official website of the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers. Here at ATC (The Aluminum Trailer Company) and Motiv Trailers, we are very proud to say that we are an official member of the NATM. What does this mean to you exactly, as a consumer? Well, only trailer manufacturers that have passed a strict “Guidelines Compliance Consultation” are allowed to display the NATM certified decal. This decal indicates our commitment to building a safe, outstanding product – and ensures that our trailers are meeting federal regulations and industry safety standards. Since we are a trailer manufacturer that specializes in the custom-built, unique trailer, it is especially critical to us that we are following all safety regulations and standards to ensure you a safe and well-built trailer. Not every trailer manufacturer has taken the time and effort to be NATM certified. Take a moment to look for the red, white, and blue sticker on any trailer you are considering – if it is missing this emblem, you can’t be certain that the trailer has been built in compliance with NATM guidelines. Membership in the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers…it’s just another step we take here at ATC and Motiv to ensure that our product is the absolute best trailer out there!

 Weatherford International Oil Services just received their first commercial trailer from the Aluminum Trailer Company. Weatherford contacted ATC when they had noticed the commercial trailers on our website http://www.aluminumtrailer.com/custom trailers/field service . They needed a rugged commercial trailer that could be used as an office in just about any environment. With the numerous commercial trailer pictures on the ATC website they were able to pick a design that worked for them and get their trailers extremely fast. After narrowing down the options and determining the floor plan of their commercial trailer they decided on an affordable solution. Pictured is a similar unit to what Weatherford purchased.
 I personally had the opportunity to take Weatherford their first commercial trailer. These particular units will be working in the beautiful state of Wyoming. As you may or may not know the temperatures can be very cold in Wyoming so these commercial trailers were designed with an exceptional insulation package. The crews will be able to be comfortable in the extreme cold temperatures they called upon to work in.  Four years ago the Aluminum Trailer Company began to build its first Dog House trailer. With our company being located in Indiana I had never even heard the term Dog House trailer. Nabors well service was looking for a way to lighten their load and design a dog house trailer that would be better for their service crews (Rough Necks).
When I ended up seeing my first dog house trailer I could see how they got their name. As you look at the back of a dog house trailer it would have one entry door with a round top roof looking much like a dog house for two legged creatures. If you take a moment to see (picture) what Nabors and ATC designed looked nothing like a dog house trailer of the past. This trailer was designed to be pulled with a ¾ ton truck, it was very rugged, and provided a great environment for the crews to get break from the harsh elements they work in.
I had the opportunity to deliver the first Aluminum Trailer Company Dog House trailer to Nabors. It was great opportunity to meat some of the staff at the corporate offices in Houston Texas. The attached picture is of the very first trailer we delivered them. As the corporate leaders toured the custom dog house trailer they decided to add even more features to keep their crews happy. For instance we added a microwave, refrigerator, generator and air conditioning. Nabors now has the nicest Dog House trailer in the industry. And from a woman’s perspective, let me tell you, it can be REALLY tough to find an acceptable place to take care of business! And don’t even get me started on the long lines you typically have to wait in.

Recently ATC built a new quality trailer for Barrett displays. Barrett called ATC with a very short timeline. They needed a quality trailer with some custom features in 3 weeks. ATC’s team rose to the challenge. As Mr. Barrett viewed his quality trailer for the first time his words were this looks very nice, I am very happy with the quality and craftsmanship. Barrett will now take this trailer and turn it into a mobile command center for disaster response.
