You are probably thinking first what the heck am I talking about and second even if you don’t know what I am talking about yes of course.

Standard or Custom Trailers?
Monday, September 13th, 2010So this is the question of the year. Is The Aluminum Trailer Company (ATC) and Motiv trailers a standard trailer manufacturer or are we a custom trailer manufacturer? Internally it depends on which sales person you ask. I’m not really sure it matters that much. I want to be a company which sells a car hauler, motorcycle trailer, stacker, cargo trailer, specialty trailer, open trailer, etc that people want to buy! Of course its not as simple as that statement. If we are a custom shop that means we have longer lead times, we have a robust engineering staff, we dedicate a lot of resources to build engineered to order trailers. If we are a standard trailer shop, then we don’t need the heavy overhead structure, our production employees see a limited amount of different types trailers, which means they can get built faster at a more competitive price.
I don’t think we need to choose. We have decided as a company that are going to do both of these well. That is a huge commitment since there is so much difference in how these trailers are built. The journey will not be easy, but in the end it will be worth it. I say that because we will be able to provide you, the customer exactly what you need at exactly the price you think you should pay. Friday, August 27th, 2010We sure have grown up a fair bit since the first race car hauler we built and showed down in Daytona back in February of 2000. I’ll be honest, that first ATC race car hauler trip to Daytona was a struggle. Some of the top trim came off on my way down to Florida and my dad and I spent the better part of a day looking for it along the highway. Somehow, by the grace of God, we found it! We popped it back on and continued on the show. To say we were a bit “green” in the race car hauler business would be quite an understatement.
I’m happy to say over the past 11 years we have done a lot of growing up and we have learned a tremendous amount from our customers and dealers. We now find ourselves deep into the race car hauler business with an overflowing list of satisfied customers. We thank all of you who helped us get here and have had a part in our success.
While we have learned a lot and enjoyed some success over the years, part of being a great company is never getting complacent. Living Quarter Trailers
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010Living quarter trailers take some unique capabilities to build the right way. Here at ATC I wouldn’t say that we specialize in living quarter trailers but we do a good job in building them. Our living quarter trailers don’t really compare to an RV or Travel trailer in either price or design. Our living quarter trailers usually are highly customized and serve multiple purposes. Our living quarter trailers can be added to most of our models to make a very unique product that meets a living quarter trailer customers needs. Living quarter trailers can be slapped together in a way that gives the appearance of a finished livable unit but then have nothing beneath the surface that will satisfy the customer over the long haul. We have our own custom wood cabinet shop where we make high quality cabinets for our living quarter trailers. Our living quarter trailers also can be outfitted with aluminum racing cabinets in place of wood as well. Living quarter trailers also take a special kind of worker that can do finish work as well as being efficient on time. To fit all of the things required by a place that you expect to live in into a small space afforded by a living quarter trailer is very difficult. Living quarter trailers become even more difficult to build when they are customized. We have been building living quarter trailers for about 5 years now and have done pretty well.
Mobile Office Trailers
Friday, August 6th, 2010Mobile office trailers are a specialized product that many companies build exclusively. Mobile office trailers are usually built very cheaply for construction sites or mechanical contracting sites. They are constructed to be parked in one place for a very long time and there fore the running gear of most mobile office trailers built by these companies are not made to withstand many miles on the road. Mobile office trailers that ATC builds are a bit more expensive but are built to last longer and perform better on the road. At times there are mobile office trailers that are treated as a throw away product that will only last a few years and then need to be replaced. The hassle of buying a new mobile office is difficult and the longer one lasts and meets the mobile office customer’s needs. Sometimes mobile office trailers require multiple talents to do well at. We have to have a wide variety of strengths to build well. We need to be able build a product for the mobile office customer that lasts and performs well in a variety of climates and harsh environments. Longevity is also important with mobile office trailers.

That purpose was to get a race car from point a to point b. When you compare today’s race trailer with the race trailer of the 90’s the changes have been amazing. Bathroom Trailers
Thursday, July 15th, 2010Did you ever have a time when you just had to go? Go? You know what I mean especially if you’re over 40 or decided to have just a little too much coffee that morning. Anyway, what do you do when you have to go and there is no bathroom in sight? Or maybe you have a phobia regarding those port-a-potties at major outdoor events. You know the ones that seemed like they have not been cleaned for at least two months, or that some little kid was just not quite tall enough to reach all the way, and the seat is wet and it’s not water!!
Well I can’t help everyone but if you’re at a race event, or crafts fair, or boy scout jamboree, or even on the job as a landscaper then I every well can help. Aluminum Gooseneck Trailers
Tuesday, July 13th, 2010One of my favorite things about blogging is highlighting past projects where we have completely exceeded a customers expectations. A few years back we were asked to build a highline aluminum gooseneck trailer for a guy up in the Toronto area. As I learned more and more about the project, I began to understand that he didn’t want just any aluminum gooseneck trailer, he wanted the best aluminum gooseneck trailer ever built.
This aluminum gooseneck trailer was going to be used for his snowmobiles in the winter and his ATV’s and motorcycles in the summer. The trailer was designed and built with a full living quarter and bathroom design. One important feature of the project was that the customer wanted private sleeping quarters for six people.
What came out of our engineering department was a 46’ gooseneck stacker complete with two slide outs, custom attic bedroom, Amish–made hardwood cabinetry, custom submerged bathroom layout, and a stacker lift system layout that was capable of housing up to 6 snowmobiles and loads of gear.
Arguably, this may have been the best aluminum gooseneck trailer we have ever built. Check out these images!

Monday, May 17th, 2010Here at the Aluminum Trailer company we have been moving more in the direction of specialty trailers. We do many styles of enclosed trailers but specialty trailers are where we really shine. Specialty trailers require some strengths that cargo trailers don’t. We have a full engineering staff of 5 that help both in drawing 3D models and prints for specialty trailers but also in figuring out how to do things that customers dream up. Anyone can build a utility trailer effectively but there are very few manufacturers that can deliver a fully functioning specialty trailer that meets the customer’s expectations. Specialty trailers are typically one of a kind. A customer of a specialty trailer will dream something up from scratch or see something in the marketplace and bring us and idea. We deliver the specialty trailer that meets or exceeds their needs. Sometimes we build the designs from a fully detailed spec and other times we are lucky to get a napkin with some sketches on it.
