LED Clearance Lights

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

The Aluminum Trailer Company is always searching for news ways to improve not only the quality of our trailers but the interior and exterior look as well. An important change ATC recently made was to standardize LED lights on all trailer models. LED or light emitting diodes are an example of cutting edge technology. The LED lighting concept is extremely different then traditional incandescent lights. There are three main benefits to an LED lighting system. First traditional incandescent lights use a weak metal filament which is susceptible to bumps and vibration in the road. LED’s are a solid system (no moving parts) containing an electronic chip that creates a sturdy lighting device.

Secondly, LED lights are brighter then incandescent lights making them safer while traveling on the road. “In fact studies have shown that LED lights, because of there quicker and brighter response times, provide an extra 24′ of stopping distance at 60 mph”** Transportation Equipment News - January 2001

Finally, LED lights consume less energy. (up to 90% less) This means your tow vehicle’s electric system is not exuding as much energy to light up your tow vehicle which can help to save fuel and the life of your battery.
