Advantech Floor in ATC and Motiv Trailers

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Every once in a while we get customers asking us why we use Advantech floors in our trailers… Here’s the scoop.

There really is only one downside to Advantech and that is that customers sometimes initially think it is just cheap chipboard and we are cutting corners to save cost.  A simple look into Advantech proves otherwise.

The true facts are that Advantech was created by Huber Woods out Charlotte, North Carolina for the housing industry.  They created this board because housing contractors were complaining that the standard plywood sub floors on their houses were delaminating when it sat unprotected in the snow, sleet and rain.  Huber woods created Advantech to withstand the moisture that was destroying the plywood subfloors.  Advantech is a manufactured wood board but it is different than any other OSB on the market.  It is made with non-water soluble glue and it is compressed with 4 times the pressure than that of a normal OSB.  If you look at the board close up you will clearly see the difference between this board and any other OSB.

Advantech is used exclusively in our snowmobile trailers and it works better than any other product.  The snow comes and melts but it does not penetrate the board.  All you have to do is simply sweep the water out of the trailer.  Due to the density of the board it also does well holding up against the sharp snowmobile carbides.  With a plywood floor, you need to change the plywood every few years because the carbides tear the plywood to sheds.  With Advantech the carbides will scratch and mar the surface, but it will not penetrate the board.  We’ve seen many “well seasoned” snowmobile trailers come in with noting more than scratches on the floor… nothing like a plywood floor.

Another huge benefit Advantech provides is in on our wide body car haulers.  Advantech can be ordered in any width we want, whereas plywood can only be ordered in at 96″ wide.  On a 102″ wide body trailer that means that there has to be a silly 3” plywood seam the entire length of there trailer.  With Advantech we order our boards in at 99″ wide so it PERFECTLY fits into a wide body frame design.

Snowmobile Trailers

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

“I guess we are no more than a piss in the snow to you, hey”. Those words were first spoken almost 20 years ago by one of my favorite people and for sure one of our most interesting dealers. Me, I build trailers. I know what you’re thinking. What kind of dead end job is that! Well you know the cliché “until you walk in another man’s shoes”. Anyway, back to the yellow snow. I was doing a dealer delivery of a snowmobile trailer to a new dealer from Canada and he wanted to share some ideas he had, and well that’s when he delivered the above line. He also said something about being just a dumb Canuck, which by the way I am pretty certain is some sort of racist slur.

Well as I’ve said there have been many snowmobile trailers purchased by that dealer in the last 20 years, and we both have many other memories both good and bad in our friendship. That line however will forever define our relationship.

He is obviously much more “than just a piss in the snow”, and building trailers is more than just a job for me. If you’d like to find out about some really neat snowmobile trailers check out www.aluminumtrailer.com

By the way that’s where you will find me much of the time, I’m the guy walking in my own shoes. They just happen to help me build trailers.

Got some ATVs that need to get moved?

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

ATC and Motiv Trailers build a full line of ATV trailers.  If you are looking for a simple trailer to haul one or two ATVs, we typically build those in our 6′ or 7.5′ wide trailer models.  If you want to take the whole gang with you and pack 4 or more ATVs, you’ll probably find our 8.5′ wide trailer most appealing.

It seems that the new trend in ATV trailers is to add some of the amenities of home.  Many of our ATV trailers now come equipped with 110v lighting, windows, stereo equipment, flat screen TV’s and sleeping accommodations.  When you’re roughing it out in the back 40, those comfortable amenities of home sure come in handy.

We can build your ATV trailer on either a steel frame or aluminum frame.  Please check out our full line of ATV trailers on our website at www.aluminumtrailer.com for full details.  We typically use either our Car Hauler models or our Motorcycle Hauler models to accommodate the common ATV customer.  Feel free to give us a call and let our knowledgeable sales staff help steer you in the right direction.

ATV trailers

Monday, April 13th, 2009

There are a few things to keep in mind when looking for an ATV trailer.  Trailer to ground clearances are essential on your ATV trailer.  You will transport your ATV over all kinds of terrain, you want to make sure your tow vehicle and trailer can get you there.  Check the ramp door surface, you will be operating your ATV in all kinds of terrain, water, sand, mud, snow…all things which make for a slippery surface so you will want to make sure the finished surface on the ramp door will not be able to maintain grip with these items on it.  Front access.  Some ATVs do not operate in reverse.  How will you exit the ATV trailer if your ATV doe not go backwards.  Tie downs are also essential.  Do you haul different ATVs, multiple ATVs…more is better when it comes to tie downs.  Check to make sure they are properly fastened.  500 pound D rings screwed through a plywood floor will pull out on a 500 pound load.  Check for backer supports where all tie downs are located in the floor or on the walls.  These are just a few things to look for in your next ATV trailer.

All Aluminum Snowmobile Trailer

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

The Aluminum Trailer Company (ATC) is the only company that builds an all aluminum frame on a snowmobile trailer.  Most manufactures add steel reinforcements to the axle area.   This area tends to take the bulk of the stress on a snowmobile trailer.Because ATC has designed its snowmobile trailer with a full perimeter frame we have a snowmobile trailer strong enough to handle your biggest load of sleds without the need for steel reinforcements.  This unique design allows ATC to build one of the lightest snowmobile trailers in the industry. ATC’s perimeter frame snowmobile trailer design differs from our competitors design in that our sub frames strength comes from our tube frame runs all the way to the outside of our sub frame.  Not like most snowmobile trailers that rely on a frame that includes outriggers to support their side walls.

ATC builds snowmobile trailers in lengths from 12′ up to 27′. ATC’s snowmobile trailers inside heights come with a standard height of 6′. ATC builds snowmobile trailers in both 7.5′ and 8.5′ widths.  The 7.5′ wide design is set up as an inline loading trailer whereas the 8.5′ wide trailer is designed for side by side loading.     ATC snowmobile trailers have been on the road since 1999 and continue to offer the best value.

Take your sled on a road trip!

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

It may seem to be a strange time of year to be talking about snowmobile trailers, but we have actually had a ton of interest about these recently at ATC and Motiv.  Winter isn’t quite over yet, and one of the best ways to enjoy it is to take your fun on the road with an ATC all-aluminum snowmobile trailer.  Our incredibly strong yet lightweight all-tube construction is the best design to haul your toys over mountain roads.  All of our snowmobile trailers feature a V-nose design for the most convenient drive-off unloading possible.  No need to turn your tow vehicle – just lower the 58″ wide front ramp door and head out to enjoy the great outdoors!  Our 8.5′ wide models are built with a deckover design to ensure maximum room inside.  Got ATV’s?  These trailers were designed to haul those with ease!

As always with ATC and Motiv, we build your trailer any way you want it.  You can keep it simple and rugged with our basic standard model – or you can really trick it out with our popular options like fuel doors, white vinyl or aluminum interior walls, and cabinets to store your helmets and other gear.  If steel is your choice, check out our Motiv line of steel snowmobile trailers.  With Motiv, you can get all the style and quality of an ATC trailer for a more economical price.  Since winter seems to be hanging on for a little while longer, we all might as well get outside and enjoy ourselves!

Bring on the snow! With an ATC snowmobile hauler, you can hit the trails all winter long with peace of mind and style. Salted roads are no problem– aluminum design means no rust for your frame! An A-Frame coupler and 2×5 inch reinforced aluminum extrusions make for a rock-solid trailer that has become an ATC trademark. Our snowmobile trailers are made for heavy-duty use, yet curb weights are only a fraction of steel trailers. The weight savings will not only improve your fuel economy, but will also provide peace of mind as you pull your sleds down the road.
