Every once in a while we get customers asking us why we use Advantech floors in our trailers… Here’s the scoop.
There really is only one downside to Advantech and that is that customers sometimes initially think it is just cheap chipboard and we are cutting corners to save cost. A simple look into Advantech proves otherwise.
The true facts are that Advantech was created by Huber Woods out Charlotte, North Carolina for the housing industry. They created this board because housing contractors were complaining that the standard plywood sub floors on their houses were delaminating when it sat unprotected in the snow, sleet and rain. Huber woods created Advantech to withstand the moisture that was destroying the plywood subfloors. Advantech is a manufactured wood board but it is different than any other OSB on the market. It is made with non-water soluble glue and it is compressed with 4 times the pressure than that of a normal OSB. If you look at the board close up you will clearly see the difference between this board and any other OSB.
Advantech is used exclusively in our snowmobile trailers and it works better than any other product. The snow comes and melts but it does not penetrate the board. All you have to do is simply sweep the water out of the trailer. Due to the density of the board it also does well holding up against the sharp snowmobile carbides. With a plywood floor, you need to change the plywood every few years because the carbides tear the plywood to sheds. With Advantech the carbides will scratch and mar the surface, but it will not penetrate the board. We’ve seen many “well seasoned” snowmobile trailers come in with noting more than scratches on the floor… nothing like a plywood floor.
Another huge benefit Advantech provides is in on our wide body car haulers. Advantech can be ordered in any width we want, whereas plywood can only be ordered in at 96″ wide. On a 102″ wide body trailer that means that there has to be a silly 3” plywood seam the entire length of there trailer. With Advantech we order our boards in at 99″ wide so it PERFECTLY fits into a wide body frame design.

ATC is producing basic utility trailers. In the past The Aluminum Trailer Company was only known for custom aluminum trailers. Now ATC has launched a new line called the ravin light models. These basic utility trailers are built in the same plant as our high end custom trailers. By limiting the options on the utility trailers and looking closely at what areas we could be more efficient in we were able to create a high quality utility trailer at a low price. But please know that when ATC says they have limited options that is for ATC standards in utility trailers. If you take a moment and visit Aluminumtrailer.com look for the economy cargo trailers. You can actually price your own trailer and find the dealer nearest you. When you are ready to make your next utility trailer purchase make sure you check out ATC we now have a great utility trailer to fit your budget as well.

Do you know what the difference is between inclose or enclose? Or the variants of those inclosed or enclosed? Well as it turns out there isn’t any difference they both mean the same thing. However the preferred spelling or usage just happens to be “enclosed”. Now that may not mean much to most people but I just happen to be in the business of making enclosed trailers, and since we advertise we really do try to get things like spelling and grammatical nuances correct. I don’t know how much longer that will actually be important in the age of texting and twitter it seems that you can just make things up as you go along.
Let’s get back to that enclosed trailers thing for a moment. Of course you were wondering what that means? Well weren’t you? An enclosure structurally is like a fence around property or more specifically like a porch on your house, but now you put glass around it. Voila! You now have an enclosed room that used to be an open to the weather porch. That may not mean much to some people, but try reading the Sunday morning paper on your porch in Indiana in January. You would immediately understand why enclosing it with glass makes a lot of sense. If I built enclosed porches, I would continue down this path but I don’t so I won’t.
I make enclosed trailers (www.aluminumtrailer.com) and I was just trying to get my point across in a way most people would understand. You can buy many types of trailers and many of them are open like your front porch, and they work very well for some things, but if you want things dry and not exposed to the elements of the weather you need an enclosed trailer. What kind of enclosed trailer? Well I could tell you now but that would spoil my fun. LOL (that’s one of those texting things I was talking about). Maybe next time we can talk about the different kinds of enclosed trailers, until then Happy Trailering!

Cargo trailers are everywhere. On your next drive to work or to the grocery store take a look and count how many you see. My guess is you will be amazed at your final count. Cargo trailers can be used for almost any business you can imagine.
Over the last 15 years the number cargo trailers manufactured has more than doubled. At first glance all of these trailers look the same. You might see a few different colors and some variations in height, but mostly, one trailer looks just like another.
Not so fast my friend! Nothing could be further from the truth. Unlike men, all cargo trailers are not created equally. Certain trailers rise to the top and stand alone as the best cargo trailers on the market. ATC and Motiv are two of those brands that separate from the pack and lead in quality and value.
ATC and Motiv cargo trailer are designed from the ground up to be the best cargo trailers on the market. Attention to detail, all tube construction, LED clearance lights are just a few of the things that separate the men from the boys. And ATC and Motiv cargo trailers are the best value on the market.
Cargo trailers are not created equal. ATC and Motiv have set the quality and value bar high. Take a close look at the options you have when buying a cargo trailer and I think you will agree that the cream of the crop is ATC and Motiv cargo trailers

Whenever people ask me what I do for my job I always answer that I build cargo trailers. That of course leads to the inevitable question. What kind of cargo, what do mean by cargo trailer? Do you mean like U Haul? The answer is always a qualified yes, just like a U Haul but different. We at ATC (www.aluminumtrailer.com) build all kinds of trailers for a lot of different companies and a lot of different applications. However when it gets right down to it you need a cargo trailer to haul stuff. Trust me it’s the easiest and safest way to get your stuff where you want it to be.
A number of years ago (working at a different company not to be named here) I would routinely deliver trailers to our dealers on the east coast. The reason was pretty simple. They got a trailer delivered without having to pay the transportation cost, and I got to visit my family. A real quid pro quo! Now normally it was just an empty cargo trailer that I would drop off at the dealer’s lot. Then I would visit with the dealer and review some business items, and then next day as I said I would visit my family.
One particular trip however proved to be quite a challenge. You see my oldest daughter had graduated from college, and decided to permanently relocate to Brooklyn, New York. For those of you who don’t know that’s one of the five boroughs that make up the city of New York. Therefore, I was now going to load and move all her stuff. Did I mention earlier that cargo trailers are all about hauling stuff? Anyway here was the dilemma. Load all her things bed, furniture, clothes, etc. in the cargo trailer. Drive into Brooklyn (not the most ideal city for a truck and trailer), unload the trailer, and then deliver it to the dealer with the inside and outside looking new.
Well the driving part was pretty easy, and by the way almost anyone would find hauling a cargo trailer relatively easy. It was when we arrived on her street that it initially looked daunting. You see they have this thing called alternate side of the street parking. What I think that means is that if you don’t find parking you have an alternative, just keep driving. A parking space for a twenty foot trailer and truck doesn’t just happen, but believe it or not there it was. The only problem now would be to actually parallel park the whole thing. With my daughters spotting for me, and a little luck I was able to do it. We unloaded her stuff, I spent the night, and I delivered the trailer to the dealer the next day.
As I said when you need to move whatever it is that needs moving consider a cargo trailer from ATC. That’s where I work building them, and I’ll throw in the driving lesson for free. Happy Moving!

Worried about your precious cargo? That’s why an enclosed trailer is the perfect solution for you! Protect your belonging from harsh weather conditions and keep your expensive equipment safe behind locked doors and out of harms way. As an added benefit, enclosed trailers have less resistance to the wind so your gas will go further than with an open hauler.

Here at the Aluminum Trailer company we have been moving more in the direction of specialty trailers. We do many styles of enclosed trailers but specialty trailers are where we really shine. Specialty trailers require some strengths that cargo trailers don’t. We have a full engineering staff of 5 that help both in drawing 3D models and prints for specialty trailers but also in figuring out how to do things that customers dream up. Anyone can build a utility trailer effectively but there are very few manufacturers that can deliver a fully functioning specialty trailer that meets the customer’s expectations. Specialty trailers are typically one of a kind. A customer of a specialty trailer will dream something up from scratch or see something in the marketplace and bring us and idea. We deliver the specialty trailer that meets or exceeds their needs. Sometimes we build the designs from a fully detailed spec and other times we are lucky to get a napkin with some sketches on it. Specialty trailers have become our bread and butter even though specialty trailer customers can be very demanding.

I have been working in the trailer business for almost 6 years now, and I am still continuously amazed at all the different things people want to put in their trailers. When you read the phrase “cargo trailer” it seems so simple and straightforward…yet every day at ATC and Motiv brings new customers, with different types of cargo, and totally unique ways of carrying it.
For example, we called one of our favorite projects “The Monkey Trailer” – and yes, it was a super custom high end playground for a customer’s beloved pet monkeys. Loaded with a custom primate cage package, wire runs all around the upper and lower levels of the trailers for exercise, a state of the art heating and cooling system, even a flat screen TV for the monkey’s entertainment…it was a cargo trailer that even a human would have been comfortable in!
Of course, we don’t make just super custom trailers (even if they are the most fun). When the tough economic times hit a year and a half ago, we heard from quite a few of our customers and dealers that ATC and Motiv really needed a value priced cargo trailer line. And so we introduced our Raven Lite models, which are designed to hit the budget price people want while still providing the space and super quality they need. You can get a standard Raven Lite even on the tightest budget, and for just a little more you can upgrade to all kinds of popular options, such as our aluminum frame or 2’ wedge nose.
So no matter what your precious cargo is, we can build the perfect trailer for you. To us, there are no “cookie cutter” trailers…whatever you want to haul, we will find a way!

When it comes to enclosed trailers we at ATC can build just about anything. From the $1500 cargo trailer up to the $200,000 command center. Everything in between those two items we have the ability to build. Last spring we noticed that we have the capacity to build more trailers than we were building so we introduced our raven lite line of cargo trailers. We have always excelled in building larger enclosed trailers that require more engineering capabilities. Enclosed trailers in this category are much different than building simple cargo trailers. We have a special kind of workforce that has the capability finish out the enclosed trailers in a special way. Customers that buy larger and more expensive enclosed trailers have higher standards and higher expectations about what the product needs to do and look like. Many enclosed trailers, unlike cargo trailers, have to be approached with a project mentality rather than a trailer that’s going to run down the line in a day or so. These enclosed trailers test the limits of most manufacturers and typically end with an unsatisfied customer and dealer. Cargo trailers have customers and needs that are much easier to meet expectations. We have been constantly challenged by unique enclosed trailer needs and are able to meet or exceed our customer’s expectations. As we have developed our line of lower cost cargo trailers, we have been surprised by the number of customers that are willing to pay a bit more for a nicer product. Our cargo trailer line has been especially popular with people that want a low cost trailer that has a lighter weight aluminum frame. Our cargo trailers are available with a low cost aluminum upgrade that has been very popular, especially with our Canadian customers. We can offer cargo trailer dealers the ability to sell a large custom product to a large or demanding enclosed trailer application. We are quickly becoming a recognized name in a very crowded enclosed trailer market.

Let’s say you are in Bemidji, Minnesota and you just found a wonderful antique shop that has all the missing parts to your eclectic furniture collection ranging from an amazing little painted Shaker clock reel ($6,500), a mint condition Shaker tall chest of drawers with a semi-graduated, molded lip ($48,000), amazingly they also have the 1959 Barbie No. 1 “The Diamond Barbie” ($85,000). You can’t wait to have these wonderful treasures in your sitting room in the Hamptons, but alas! Do you really want to entrust your precious cargo to the hands of Joe and John the local hauling guys? I know, they carry insurance, but wouldn’t it make more sense to bring your treasures home by yourself? Of course it does! A practical and safe means to get them home is to purchase an ATC cargo trailer before you leave for your trip; you see the scenario above was fictitious. But, think for a moment if it really happened and how much better you would feel knowing that you are putting your valuable finds in a quality built cargo trailer. I know that you probably would be feeling about as good as the guy sitting on Waikiki beach while getting handed a tropical drink with an umbrella in it. ATC builds all of their cargo trailers to the highest standards possible and puts the construction in the hands of Amish craftsmen to ensure that the trailer doesn’t simply get the job done, but that the fit and finish is great! Come on, do you really want your Barbie to wear the gown with 160 diamonds and white gold jewelry to ride in anything less than the comfort and security that an ATC cargo trailer can provide?

So, unless you’ve been living on the moon for the past six months, you know our economy is in a recession. The RV and trailer industry has been especially hard-hit. We’ve been luckier than most here at ATC and Motiv Trailers – but our business is still slower than we’d like. So just like everyone else, we are trying to “think outside the box” a little and be creative in our efforts to boost activity. One route we’re exploring is a brand new cargo trailer line – the Motiv Raven steel cargo trailer. This trailer is designed to be competitively priced in the tough cargo trailer market, while remaining the superior built product that Motiv is famous for. We’ve included Dexter leaf-spring axles, a flat top aluminum roof, hat post walls and ceiling, Advantech flooring with a 25 year warranty, and bias ply tires. All these features keep the prices low and the lead times short! We are introducing the Raven car hauler in 5′, 6′, and 7′ models, with lengths available from 8′ all the way to 16′ long. We have also come up with a short list of popular options that you can add to give these trailers a little extra zip – things like 6″ extra height, upgrade to vinyl or 3/8″ plywood walls and ceiling, rear ramp doors, radial tires, and 12″ extended tongue. These lightweight steel cargo trailer are designed to be production friendly, which keeps the price amazingly low for such a super quality trailer! So if you’re looking for an easy way to boost your sales a little, get a few Motiv Ravens to sit on your lot. You’ll be amazed at how fast they disappear…

No matter what kind of precious cargo you have to carry, we have an aluminum cargo trailer to fit the bill. Here at ATC we build everything from a 6′ x 12′ aluminum cargo trailer all the way up to a 53′ aluminum cargo trailer.
One of the big advantages of our aluminum cargo trailer is the lightweight design. With a lightweight design you can pull our trailer will smaller tow vehicles and save fuel in the process. Our engineering team designed our aluminum cargo trailer out of all tube construction which means that strength and longevity are a standard features.
Another reason our aluminum cargo trailers have been so popular is because our aluminum frame is retardant to rust and corrosion. That means whether you own the trailer for one year of fifteen years, you will be proud of the appearance. It also means that you will be guaranteed to never spend a Saturday afternoon repainting the rust on your steel frame. I don’t know about you, but that sure doesn’t sounds like the relaxing Saturday afternoon that I enjoy.
Check out our innovative line of aluminum cargo trailers on our website. You can find us at www.aluminumtrailer.com Thanks for your interest and please give us a call if we can help answer any further questions for you.

The Aluminum Trailer Company (ATC) has been building all aluminum cargo trailers is its inception in 1999. The number of cargo trailers and cargo trailer manufacturers is numerous. But there is only one ATC cargo trailer. ATC cargo trailers are truly all aluminum. ATC cargo trailers are built with an all tube frame. No C channel framing on the roof. No hat posts on the walls. No light weight I Beam on the sub frame. All tube construction means all tube construction on our cargo trailer.
An all aluminum cargo trailer may be more expense than a steel frame cargo trailer at time of purchase, but in the long run an aluminum cargo trailer is your best investment. Long term, you will spend less money maintaining an aluminum cargo trailer than you would a steel framed cargo trailer. Steel framed cargo trailer have the sub frame painted at the time of manufacturing. The paint will chip, flake, or scratch in time allowing a steel cargo trailer to rust. Paint can be replaced but it takes time and money. Paint problems are both costly and inconvenient.
ATC’s aluminum cargo trailer is lighter than steel cargo trailers. Our aluminum cargo trailer is as much as 18% lighter than a steel cargo trailer. Less weight means makes for an easier pulling cargo trailer. Easier puling means better fuel economy. Better fuel economy means less money is spent on gas and more money stays in your pocket.
ATC’s aluminum cargo trailer is a long term investment. An ATC cargo trailer is built to last 10 years or longer. In 10 years most customers will go through as many as 3 steel cargo trailers. In the long run paying a little more up front for an ATC all aluminum cargo trailer makes the most sense.

There are a myriad of uses for an ATC or Motiv cargo trailer. Some of the most popular uses for a cargo trailer are for landscaping, construction, and general homeowner use. At ATC and Motiv we also have the capability to custom build your cargo trailer. Due to our skilled craftsman and our strong engineering department, we have expanded what most people thing a cargo trailer would be used for.
A recent cargo trailer project we completed was for a mobile sound recording studio. The two most important characteristics of this cargo trailer were that is must be 100% water tight and it must be virtually sound proof. Not only did this customer need to transport his expensive audio recording equipment in this cargo trailer, he also created live recording from inside this trailer. In order to meet these requirements we added a special sound deadening insulation that eliminated 99% of all outside the trailer noises. We also had to install a special vibration isolation kit under the generator so that the simple vibrations from the generator would not be detected on the audio recordings.
As mentioned, ATC and Motiv have broadened the cargo trailer market though our innovative problem-solving and sales approach to the trailer business. What kind of cargo trailer can we help build for you?

Here in northern Indiana we never know when summer will show up or at what intensity. But we do know that some of our nearby schools like Notre Dame and Purdue are winding down their school years which means summer is near. I always chuckle at the students trying to pack a years worth of garbage into their Ford Focus. It just doesn’t work! What they need is a nice small cargo tailer to pull behind their Focus. With an all aluminum tube frame our 2008 Cargo Series trailers are a great pull behinds for any sized vehicle.

Did you know that Motiv offers CSX cargo trailers in 6.5′ and 7.5′ wide models. By adding an extra six inches to the width of our trailers, it allows much more room for your precious cargo. Without doubt, our 7.5′ wide CSX model has been our biggest seller (shown at left). The 7.5′ wide model is the widest trailer you can get and still easily see around the side of the trailer with standard truck mirrors. Since the fender box strategically straddles the exterior wall, the trailer has a 2″ interior wheel box and a 6.5″ exterior fender.
We would love to tell you that we came up with this brilliant idea, but in fact we just listen to our customers. If you have your own ideas on how to improve trailer designs… give us a call, we’re all ears.
